and the 'blahs' have it

Man I've only been at school for 4 days and already it's getting dull. I like most of my classes, but the lectures sometimes get boring. One of my textbooks is REALLY dry which is annoying because it's on an interesting topic (Gender Realtions). On top of THAT 2 of my textbooks aren't even in yet, and it's pissing me off because I'm gonna be behind from the outset.

So tommorow is gonna be a bit of a busy day (not that the last few haven't been). I get to go to class @ 9 and then to the doctors for 11:45, then to work for 12:30-9. I might be getting together with James after that. It's gonna be a little bit crazy.

So I got a message from my doctor the other day saying I needed to go in to discuss the results on my bloodtest. It's not the clinic's policy to call people over nothing. At least normally. Dave thinks it's routine (because it is at most clinics) and I hope he's right. Or that's it's just something like high collesterol, because that's not something leathal etc. Well it can be, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, I'm gonna go and grab something to eat, I'm hungry. Then I'm gonna make a deck of Magic cards to test against Riley at work tommorow.

And so it begins...

Well school offically started up again yesterday. I didn't post because I was tired etc. There are a few reaasons actually but I'll spare you all that shit. Anyway. I'm posting from my Soci 303 class.

I wish i could say I never expected to find myself in a Gender Relations course but to be honest this is really just a more neutral Womens Studies course. It focuses less on a presumed oppressive male force world wide and studies why such a force came to be in the first place. I've always been interested in how society subtley or not so subtley forms us into our roles as men and women.

I do have my own view on gender at the moment. I believe that gender and sex (that is the physical characteristics of male vs. female) are completely seperate. It's a mature of nurture and nature respectivly. The physical controls absolutly nothing of our gendered behaviors; not even motherly actions etc. The act of being motherly for example fell to females because they were pregnant and had to care for the baby or risk thier own health. They were also weakened after pregnancy and couldn't leave the child as easily, and further knew the child to be physically dependant on them as they had been in the womb. This knowledge was passed down via example; not physical encoding. Odds are the first human baby would have died had the mother not followed the example of her ape-like ancestors. Further these apes learned by trial and error. Had men been the ones supplying milk to the baby, they would be the "mothers" so to speak.

It's interesting to think about what of our lives is socially inforced and what is biological. It becomes very obvious that gender is an arbitrary thing when you look at man aboriginal socieites, especially those in the rainforests. Some actually have a practice of transiant genders. A woman can become more like a man via certain acts or over time and vice versa. They gain all the rights and responsibility associated with thier gender. Sex mearly determines what side of the spectrum they start on. That isn't to say they see each other as equal; but that's a whole other topic.

Anyway, I don't know why I felt the need to go into all of that; probably out of some fear of having my opinions ripped down in class and hoping to preserve and share them here instead.

Well onto more mundane things.

I had to get a blood test this morning. Well it didn't have to be this morning but that's when we did it anyway. I had to fast before it and that sucked cause I had a rough day yesterday and I really wanted junk food. *sigh* I know it's not good but I find it kinda comforting; not so much the food itself (anymore) but just treating myself to the things I want, and not caring about anything else. Throwing caution to the wind so to speak.

My class will be over at 2 at the latest today and then I'm off home to slack off (at least until I get my textbooks in the mail lol, the only good thing about shipping them instead of picking them up)! I'm having James over this evening because I really need to relax after yesterday (yay stressed)and he makes me feel really safe so I can drop my guard. I don't like to be so dependant on him, but... I do at the same time. If that makes sense. I want to be independant and strong, but it's nice that with him I don't have to be. I don't want to be half the time, I just want to be... me... I guess? The weak sife of me at least.

Anyway, I think I'm gonna start that slacking now and play DS in class lol. It's kinda dull in here and I'm still exhausted. Maybe I'll take a nap when I get home.
